Rabbi Edward J. Sukol
Biography
Rabbi Eddie Sukol founded The Shul, Cleveland's Open Synagogue , in 2007. His previous rabbinical appointments include service as the Hillel Director at Ohio University, the Director of Pastoral Care at the Montefiore Home and NCJW Hospice and as a congregational rabbi for twelve years in the Cleveland suburbs.
Rabbi Sukol received Rabbinical Ordination and an M.A. in Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He received a B.A. degree in psychology from Temple University.
Rabbi Sukol is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. He has also completed specialized training in Clinical Pastoral Care and Counseling.
Rabbi Sukol is an adjunct faculty member at Baldwin Wallace College and is a frequent lecturer at the Rose Institute for Life Long Learning. He is currently the President of InterAct Cleveland and serves on the Board of the Agnon School and the Hillel at Ohio University. He is a member of the Pediatric Ethics Committee at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital in Cleveland. He is also a part-time hospital chaplain with the Jewish Community Federation.
Rabbi Sukol is a past-president of the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis. Rabbi Sukol has also served as a board member of the Athens AIDS Taskforce and the Southeastern Ohio Foodbank.
Rabbi Sukol is married to Roxanne B. Sukol, M.D, an internist with The Cleveland Clinic. They have three children, Talia, Eli and Micah.
While not pursuing his professional interests, Rabbi Sukol enjoys kayaking, baking, especially organic whole wheat challah, and playing the conga drums.
